What you'll experience
Suiting Up and Entering the Hive
Before you get anywhere near the bees, your guide will fit every member of your group with a full beekeeper suit — veil, gloves, and all. Most guests have never worn one before, and there is always a moment of quiet excitement as the gear goes on and the reality of what comes next settles in.
Once suited, you walk to the hives together. Your guide will explain how to move calmly, how to breathe, and how to think like a beekeeper — because bees respond to calm. Opening the hive lid is a moment guests tend to remember for a long time.
Meeting the Colony
A healthy hive holds tens of thousands of bees, and when you pull a frame from the box, you are holding all of that life in your hands. Your guide will walk you through who is who: the workers keeping the colony running, the drones, and — if conditions are right — the queen herself.
Children especially connect with this part. There is something about seeing the structure of a colony up close — the order, the purpose, the sheer density of life in a single frame — that sticks with you long after the suits come off. We take the time to answer every question your group has.
What Bees Actually Make
Most people know honey. Very few know the full picture. Before the experience ends, your guide will walk through every major product the colony produces — what it is, how the bees make it, and why it exists in the hive's ecosystem.
The highlight for most guests is the honey tasting. Not from a jar pulled from a shelf — from the comb, warm from the hive, with nothing done to it at all. That is something you do not forget.

Frequently asked questions
Is the beekeeping experience safe for kids?
Yes. For the Simple Bee Tour, guests observe the hives from a comfortable distance with no protective gear needed. For the Full Beekeeping Experience, every guest — including children — receives a properly fitted full beekeeper suit, veil, and gloves before any hive interaction. We recommend children be at least 4 years old to get the most out of the experience.
What do we wear — do we need to bring anything?
For the Simple Bee Tour, no special clothing is required — just avoid heavy floral perfumes or colognes, since bees are sensitive to strong scents. For the Full Beekeeping Experience, we provide complete beekeeper suits, veils, and gloves for every guest. Comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes underneath the suit are all you need.
What is the difference between the Simple Tour and the Full Beekeeping Experience?
The Simple Bee Tour ($49) is an observation experience: view the hives from outside, a brief overview of how a colony works, and a honey tasting — no suit, no hive entry. The Full Beekeeping Experience ($149) is hands-on: every guest suits up, opens the hive, inspects the frames, and learns the colony hierarchy and the full range of bee products — honey, beeswax, propolis, royal jelly, bee bread, and bee pollen — with a raw honey tasting straight from the comb.
Can guests with bee sting allergies participate?
Guests with a known severe bee sting allergy (anaphylaxis) should not participate in the Full Beekeeping Experience, since it involves close contact with an open hive. The Simple Bee Tour may be suitable for milder sensitivities, since guests stay outside the hive area. Please disclose allergies when booking, and consult your physician beforehand if you have an allergy history.
Is this experience available year-round?
Beekeeping experiences run seasonally, typically late spring through early fall when the hives are active. Winter months aren't suitable — the colony is in a quiet cluster and opening the hive would harm the bees. May through September is the best window to book.
How do I book and what is the cancellation policy?
Request a date through the booking form or by calling/texting (732) 607-4422. No payment is taken online — we'll contact you to confirm your date and time, and payment is collected upfront once confirmed. If you need to cancel or reschedule, call at least 48 hours before your scheduled time for a refund or to rebook.
