Awassi isn't a generic lamb breed — it's a fat-tail sheep, native to the Middle East, and specifically sought after for the quality of its meat. That's the whole reason we raise this breed rather than a more common commercial one.
A fat-tail breed, prized for its meat
Awassi sheep carry their fat reserve concentrated in the tail rather than marbled thin through the whole carcass — a trait that's shaped how the breed is valued for meat across the regions where it's been raised for generations. It's a hardy, dual-purpose breed, but meat quality is the reputation Awassi is best known for, and it's why our flock is Awassi rather than a more common commercial breed.
Our flock is raised on pasture here at Marlboro Meadows Farm, the same way we raise our goats and chickens — outdoors, on our own ground, with no shortcuts.
