Inside the coop
A look at where the birds actually sleep — and the cameras that let you watch any time.
Most people picture a coop as a small wooden box. Ours is closer to a barn.
Space is the point
The reason commercial poultry needs routine antibiotics is crowding. Birds packed together get sick, so they are medicated to stay ahead of it. Give birds room and most of that problem disappears on its own.
Ours have a long, high, well-ventilated house to roost in, and they are out on pasture during the day. The building matters less than the door being open.
Deep bedding
We run deep bedding rather than stripping the floor constantly. The litter composts slowly in place, which keeps the house warm through winter and gives the birds something to scratch through. It also means we are not hauling waste off the farm — it goes onto the garden beds instead.
